This website is a digital archive of "Ambient Weaving Ⅱ," held at HOSOO GALLERY from October 27, 2023, to March 17, 2024.
Since 2020, ZOZO NEXT, Inc. has been developing new textiles that combine traditional crafts and cutting-edge technology to achieve functionality and beauty in collaboration with the Yasuaki Kakehi Laboratory at the University of Tokyo and HOSOO Co., Ltd. "Ambient Weaving" is a concept created during this joint research project.
It refers to textiles that express environmental information and incorporate the environment.
This exhibition showcases the results of the collaborative research as of 2023.
The prototype works in this exhibition explore the potential of "textiles that shape the environment" by expressing phenomena that exist in the interplay between the environment and humans through textiles.
These phenomena include colors and lights that emerge only when the textiles overlap or under specific environmental conditions.
A tea room created with textiles, "Ori-An," and the prototype works are displayed together, along with a hanging scroll, "JIKU," made using the Ambient Weaving technique.
This arrangement attempts to redefine the environment and, by extension, nature while connecting with the diverse cultural backgrounds inherent in the tea room.
